What is Transcendentalism?
Transcendentalism-
A philosophical and social movement that developed in New England. Influenced by romanticism, it taught that divinity is central in all nature and humanity, and its members held progressive views on feminism and communal living. Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau were central figures.
The core ideas of Transcendentalism, being Self-Reliance, nonconformity, Individualism, and Importance of Nature, can still be seen as prevalent themes in our modern culture.
