His experiment was "Transforming principle" a pneumococcus bacteria. He discovered that bacteria is cab able of transforming genetic information, a process known as transformation.

For his first experiment he used bacteria to infect mice.

He used two types of bacteria, type III-S (smooth) and type II-R (rough)
