The history of acetaminophen
In 1956, 500mg tablets of acetaminophen went on sale in the United Kingdom, and was only available by prescription for pain and fever. It was advertised as being "gentle on the stomach" since other analgesic agents contained aspirin, a known stomach irritant. In June 1958, a children's formula was released. In 1968, acetaminophen gained popularity since it had few side effects and little interaction with other pharmaceutical agents.
