As a child Patricia struggled with Dyslexia which hindered her reading ability. It was not until around the age Fourteen when she was finally taught to read. A symptom of her disability academically is having the ability to draw. Art is a major part of Patricia's life and she actually illustrates all of her books.
She makes sure to include either elderly or children in all of her books as well, because she finds joy in people of old and young ages.
At the age of 41, Patricia realized that writing children's books was something she had become passionate about and that is when she decided to become an author.
Writing has served Patricia well as she has received many awards including, the Golden Kite Award for picture book text, Michigan Author Award, and she has been nominated for the Jane Addams Children's Book Awards for her picture books.
