Clemente decided to go on the fourth relief flight to Manguana, Nicaragua after it was hit by a massive earthquake. The plane had charted for a New Years Flight. The DC-7 plane had a history of mechanical problems and was over weight by 4,000 pounds and crashed off the coast of Isla Verde, Puerto Rico. He died on December 31st 1972. His body was never discovered.
