Charles Drew was born on June 3, 1904 in Washington D.C . Charles Richard Drew was the eldest of five children. As a student, Drew was excellent in academics and sports, winning four swimming medals by the age of eight. Charles was also captain of the track team. In 1922 he graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. In 1928 he was able to apply to medical school. He went to Columbia University.
