History

In the early 1900's, scientists, recreationists and nature enthusiasts, recognized the value and potential of the area, and fought to have the region preserved.

The Indiana Dunes State Park was established in 1925.

The dunes developed by sand that blew up from Lake Michigan from as long ago as glacial times.
