During the centuries after the Islamic conquests of Egypt, the Sudan, and Northern Africa, Ethiopian Christians had little contact with Christians in other lands. As a result, although Ethiopian Christians retained basic Christian theology and rituals, it increasingly reflected the interests of its African devotes.
