Hijab protest 1979

Iranian women protesting against the Hijab law in Tehran in 1979

The Hijab is a garment that covers the head and chest worn my many Muslim women when outside their homes in the presence of Muslim men. The liberties gained in the decades prior to this day were quickly eradicated in the form of conservative revolutions. The Hijab law that required women to cover their heads and chest was enacted in 1979 in Iran, and is simply one of many new conservatively minded laws for this era

It was a watershed event of the Cold War, marking the only time the Soviet Union invaded a country outside the Eastern Bloc—a strategic decision met by nearly worldwide condemnation.
