Festivities and ceremonies

The most important celebration in Hinduism is Diwali. Also known as the festival of lights. It is a festival that celebrates the return of King Rama, after defeating the evil Ravana. They fill their streets and homes with placed candles and lights, to guide Rama and his wife back home. They paint colorful paintings called rangoli. These welcome guests and Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. If she visits it means a good year. When the sun sets families set off fireworks, to end their Diwali holiday. But before the go to bed they pray for how the power of light defeats the power of darkness and evil.
