The middle ear is a small (2cm) box shaped cavity having six walls.

It links the air filled outer ear to the fluid filled inner ear.

It has three bones inside along with two muscles and a branch of the facial nerve running through its space.

The tympanic cavity consists of two parts: the tympanic cavity proper, opposite the tympanic membrane, and the attic or epitympanic recess.
