Where did People's Temple originate?

Jonestown originated in California, but Jim Jones always dreamed of going outside the United States with his tribe. Eventually, he found a remote place near Georgetown, Guyana and he named it Jonestown. He leased some land in 1973 and his people started working right away clearing the land.
