In the capital of Greece also known as Athens there was a contest between a God and a goddess. Athena and Poseidon were deciding who would be the main God in the city. The decision was to see which God would get the city's praise. Both went to Cecrops (the governor of the city) to give him a gift. Whoever gave him the best gift would win the city's praise. Poseidon went first to give a gift. He used his trident to cause a burst of water. A lake appeared but it was salty and was of no use. When Athena went she used her spear to make a tremor. Out came an olive tree seed. She planted it and Cecrops was so pleased that he declared Athena won. Poseidon was furious so he sent a curse. From that point on Athens has had water problems.
