Life of a CCC member
• The CCC operated under the army's control. By 1935, over 500,000 young men had lived in CCC camps
• Most men were 17-25 years old and stayed from 6 months to a 1year
•The men were given about 30$ per month. 25$ was sent home to support their families
• The boys rose up and ate breakfast then did 8 hours of labor. Lunch was brought on work site
• The men had school in the evenings which
taught men how to read and write
We were taught the idea that, hey, you can do things. You can do better than what you’ve done in the past. You have a future. And we believed that.” -Harley Jolley, North Carolina.
