The Injury

Doctors performed emergency surgery to extract skull fragments and a small amount of neurotic tissue from her brain. A single bullet shot from point-blank range impacted the back of Giffords skull. The bullet then traveled the length of her brain whilst staying in only the left hemisphere. The 9mm bullet then exited above her left eyebrow. Part of her skull was removed to prevent further damage
