What is a hotspot?

A hotspot is a region deep in earths mantle from where heat rises through the process of convention. This heat facilities the melting of Rock which is also known as magma. The magma pushes through cracks in crust to form volcanos. Usually volcanos occur on plate boundaries. But with hotspots it occurs in the middle of plate.
