Auschwitz
Auschwitz, originally used for army barracks, was a concentration camp in Oświęcim, Poland. Auschwitz opened in 1940 and was the largest concentration camp in Poland. Mostly all political leaders and enemies of Hitler were detained here and killed by gas chambers. In World War II, more than one million died from gas chambers and hard slave labor. Auschwitz was operational from May 1940 - January 1945.
