Genetics and Intelligence
-For over 30 years,Plomin has examined adopted children, the adoptive parents and, the children’s biological parents.
Then Plomin compared them with control families. Control families were families where children grow up with their biological parents
-For this experiment,he measured general intelligence (IQ).
The adopted children’s IQ correlated with the IQ of their biological parents, even when the child did not grow up with them. This shows that the effect of genes is much higher than we thought
Even when the adoptive parents raise the adopted children as their own, including reading to them and helping with homework
