Romantic poets

Romantic poets were seen as seers who could reveal the invisible world to

others.

Percy Bysshe Shelley, expelled from school for advocated atheism, set out to reform

the world. His Prometheus Unbound is a portrait of the revolt of human beings

against the laws and customs that oppress them.

Lord Byron dramatized himself as the melancholy Romantic hero that he had

described in his work. He participated in the movement for Greek independence and

died in Greece fighting the Ottomans.

Major English Romantic poet William Wordsworth, born in 1770, is considered to be one of the most important literary figures in modern history, as well as one of the leading purveyors of the Romantic Movement
