J.K. Rowling has loved writing stories since she was six years old. In 1990, the idea of Harry Potter, she says, "...simply fell into my head." Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, book number one of the series, was published in the United Kingdom in 1997 and the U.S. in 1998.
The Harry Potter series has received many prizes, such as the Anthony Award, the Hugo Award, the Bram Stoker Award, and many others. Rowling has also been named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
She now lives in Scotland with her family.
