Skype was founded in 2003 by Janus Friis from Denmark and Niklas Zennstrom from Sweden. The actual Skype software was created by the Estonians " Ahti Heinla, Priit Kasesalu, and Jaan Tallinn. The first public beta version was released on August 29th, 2003. On May 10th, 2011, Microsoft bought Skype for $ 8.5 billion. This gave all the communication parts of the company to Microsoft and they created the instant messaging and other various feautures.
