A young prince named Siddhartha Guatama was born a prophet but his father kept him hidden away. When he was 29, he became aware of human suffering. He left his family, never to return. After fasting and meditating for 49 days, he became Buddha, or "the Enlightened One".
Kalidasa was the greatest playwright and poet from the Gupta empire. His most famous play is a story called Shakuntala. It tells the story of a king who marries an orphan named Shakuntala. He loses his memory and forgets he married her. In the end, however, his memory is restored and he remembers her.
