One example of foreshadowing I noticed in "Urashima Taro and the Princess of the Sea" was represented by the gift of the mysterious box, given to Urashima by the princess. The princess tells Urashima "You must not open this box, whatever happens! If you open it something dreadful will happen to you! Now promise me that you will never open this box!" This warning foreshadows the disaster to come. Once Urashima returns home he realizes that he has been gone for 300 years. Unable to think of any thing else to do he opens the box and looses his cloud of immortality.
