The main function of the rbc
Is to deliver oxygen to tissues around the body.
Most people say that a red blood cell is shaped like a donut without a hole. The proper term would be a biconcave disc. They are made in this shape so that more surface area can bind oxygen and carbon dioxide during the gas exchange.
A rbc measures up to again 6-8 micrometers in diameter and 2.5 micrometers of thickness.
