PROPAGANDA THROUGHOUT THE GREAT WAR
The government used propaganda throughout the war in order to restrict civil liberties and vilify the enemy. American participation in the war resulted in the government attempting to "sell" a war to its citizens through bonds and donations for support. The congress enacted laws to curtail the constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of speech and press for its citizens. The propaganda also portrayed the enemy in a bad or disrespectful manor in order to allow the citizens to realize how bad those who opposed them were. There rose a common enemy for everyone to fight together.
