On December 7, 1941 a surprise Japanese bombing on the USS Arizona was the event that made the US go into war.

Iwo Jima
A 72 day long Ariel attack on a tiny pacific island south of japan. Around 5,800 tons of bombs were dropped on this little island killing thousands. Then 36 days of the US and Japan fighting in land happened and the US won.

Island hopping
The US and Japan went from island to island shooting each other until the US finally won.
