Loyalty

Everybody but the king had a lord above them who they owed loyalty to.

Priests

In villages, the priests of the parish was the only contact people had with the church. The priests celebrated the mass and administered the sacraments. Priests also preached the teachings of the church and explain the bible. In the later Middle Ages, some priests ran schools.
