How oil and gas is made

Oil and gas was formed from tiny plants and animals that lived in the city millions of years ago.

The plants and animals fell to the sea bed when they died and got buried in mud and sand. The mud stopped them from rotting away.

More layers of mud bury the dead animals, and they turn into oil and gas. The oil and gas are stuck under a layer of impermeable cap rock which will not let it through

We then build massive oil rigs in the ocean to drill through the rock and extract the oil.
