~Was meant to destabilize Confederate troops in Richmond, VA; Caused many soldiers in VA to abandon and return home to protect families
~Maintained the same goals as the Georgia Campaign
~Was said to burn Columbia, SC, but many accounts trace it to other troops
~Ended with the surrender on Sherman on April 26, 1865
