The Prevalence of Departmentalization with Higher Standards

Jack of all trades, master of none.

El que mucho abarca poco aprieta.

For 2nd grade at Dr. Cash, students will begin “platooning” between two classroom teachers.

Platooning describes the practice in which students are assigned two teachers, known as a platooning team. Every teacher I the grade level takes care of teaching Reading to their own home room. Language Arts (phonics & writing) is taught by a dedicated Teacher while integrating Social Studies with writing. Math & Science are taught by a dedicated teacher who specializes in those areas.

This model of teaching allows children to learn from teachers who have passion and expertise in a narrower curriculum field. Platooning teachers develop specific content knowledge for his or her content area. Teachers then deliver lessons twice each day, which has been proven to significantly improve student learning.

Platooning teachers hone their skills and methodologies for teaching a content area at exceptionally high levels. Professional development and collegial conversations are extremely focused, empowering them to think more deeply about improvements to the core curriculum and plan differentiated instruction for a diverse set of learners.
