She began her career as a fashion model at age 16, and contracted with a modeling agency, Elite Model Management. For the next few years she worked around the world on contracts for companies like Calvin Klein and Levi's. When she was age 17 she was featured on the front cover of the July 1990 issue of Seventeen. Diaz also modeled for 2-3 months in Australia and shot a commercial for Coca-Cola in Sydney in 1991.
