There were two reasons that were related parts to the conflict between science and the Church.

The Roman Catholic Church was the power source during the Scientific Revolution.

1. The new science was making ideas that contradicted the Church teachings. Copernicus's idea was that the Earth orbited the sun. The Church believed that the Earth was the center of the universe.

2. The Church was beginning to get weaker since the ideas contradicted it's teachings. Church officials were afraid that questioning one teaching could lead to many more. People could even start doubting the key elements of their faith.
