According to the IUCN Red List of endangered species, the Mountain Pygmy Possum is critically endangered.
Location and Endangerment
As shown on the map, the Mountain Pygmy Possum is very small in number, with only 1,700 adult females left and 550 adult males.
Sometimes, the pygmy possum can be found in alpine forests or boulderfields. These areas are also liked by the pygmy possum because in these areas, they have easy access to the fruits, berries, and seeds they eat. They also can find good cover under the vegetation or in the tree tops.
The possum is sometimes found in alpine forests (left) and boulderfields (right).
