Musik

Of course as in any European countries, they are attracted to our english pop songs, and popular movies and often play "Top 40" songs in their grocery stores and malls. Movies are translated into German, and a great example is the outbreak of the newer Disney movie "Frozen" which was translated into 25 languages - one of them German.

"Oompah" music, and "Volksmusic" are part of the German traditional music. The genre of Oompah music is named after the heavy presence of the tuba in the pieces and play while people Polka (a 4/4 time dance), Mazurka, Schottishe, Waltz and Landler - all European partner/group dances. Large brass bands composed of flugelhorns, clarinets, tuba's, tenorhorn, and euphoniums popularly play upbeat movements during celebrations.

Volksmusic - translated literally to Folk Music - are played on simpler instruments like harmonica & guitar and many times tell of simple scenes in the history of the german people.

In addition, German composers have influenced American orchestra's from the 1850's. Famous names include Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Though they have their own pop artists as well. :)
