How the Battle of Fort McHenry was fought
At 6:30 A.M. the British fleet began firing upon Fort McHenry. Remaining out of tangle of the fort's defenses heavy mortar shells and rockets from Erebus fell upon the fort. It's ships closed , they came unr intense fire and were compelled to draw to their original position. To break stalemate, the British attempted to move around the fort after dark. Thinking they are safe rowing up in small boats toward the middle branch, they fired signal flares and gave away their position. As a result they came under heavy fire by fort Corington and Babcock. Thus resulting in the British withdrawing and taking heavy losses.
