Immediately after the Big Bang the universe was tremendously hot as a result particles start rushing apart in all directions. As it began to cool seconds after the creation, there existed an almost equal amount of matter and antimatter. As these two materials are created together, they collide and destroy one another creating energy. As a result the universe was able to mature in a way for matter to persist.
