INTRODUCTION TO THE BOOK

Divergent is the first book in the Divergent Trilogy, the other books being Insurgent and Allegiant. Divergent is written from the point of view of a teenage girl, about 16, living in a utopian world. The world is divided into five factions. These factions are based on different skills. Each person belongs in a certain group, whether they like it or not. Unfortunately, there are some people who just don't fit in to one group. These people are known as Divergent, and are hated by society. This is where questions of life and equality come into play.
