Born and raised in Los Angeles, California

He studied at Chouinard Art Institute and Otis Art Institute in LA before receiving his BFA degree from the University of Southern California in 1957. He continued his studies at Chouinard Art Institute and received a MFA degree at Alfred University 1959.

He is best known for his abstract shapes constructed from fired clay.
