• no Public school system was created when Texas became a state

• most Anglo American children attended private schools that were established by their church's

• These privet schools were one room has made of logs

• in 1854 Governor Elisha M. Pease signed a law to have $2 million set aside for a school fund.

• even with the money, the schools were lacking

• some public schools, collages and some institutes were created as well

• today the Permanent School Fund that was established in 1876, for public education, is worth $20 million
