Many authors looking into writing murder or kidnapping novels look to police officers for research. They get her information and clues from the people that have experienced it before.

Read other mystery novels to make sure your idea is original and will not be a "wanna be" of the real thing with the same idea that has been out for 10 years.

Go experience some of the information yourself. If your book will revolve around a crime scene, go to a crime science to investigate and see how they would solve it.
