ANALYSIS

This song was created in the Qing Dynasty (18th century). There are several regional variants of this song, with different lyrics and melody. It talks about the beauty of a jasmine flower, and how such a beautiful, perfect thing can be so insignificant. Like the Happy Birthday song, this is hierarchial diffusion because most of China did not learn it until the higher provinces learned it. The reason this kept on diffusing was because different provinces enjoyed changing up the song more and more and making it unique. Mo Li Hua was played at the Opening Ceremony during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
