Jesus shows mercy various times in this gospel. He raises a boy from the dead (Jesus Raises a Widow's Son 7:11-17) because he feels compassion for her.

He also taught of a young man who strayed from his father, but was welcomed warmly when he finally returned, teaching that those who stray from God will be shown compassion when they return.
