Spartacus was a former gladiator that didn't like the new government, so he gathered up a bunch a slaves and they rebelled. Although it wasn't so good for Spartacus wasn't very lucky in battle, he died before they could finish the rebel. The government didn't like the idea of having another rebel, so they killed a legion full of slaves to show what would happen if anyone else tried to rebel.
