Evergreen vs. Deciduous
Evergreen trees never lose all their leaves, even in the winter. Any lost leaf will be replaced so the plant is never bare.
Deciduous plants lose all their leaves once each year. This conserves energy and minimizes damage from insects. The leaves will change color, then fall off. The reason the leaves change color is because the plant goes dormant and chlorophyll becomes absent from the plant.
