2013-2014 is another exciting year for us at Applegate School. As you can see from the eye catching and informative updates to our school website, technology continues to be a primary focus. In an effort to support the ongoing integration of technology across all areas of the curriculum and to enhance and support student learning, Technology Integration Coordinators were hired for each school this year. Mr. Falgares joined the Applegate team and has already supported tremendous technology growth during his short time in the district. The website now provides communications in a timely manner, including our new “Virtual Backpack” that provides parents electronic access to important school notices. Additionally, our students are now actively engaged in a school based daily news program. CRA TV is written, produced, recorded, and edited by fifth grade students under the direction of Mr. Falgares. Classrooms throughout the building watch the daily news program streamed on their interactive classroom devices.
Learning is both interactive and now extends outside the walls of our school here at Applegate. The outdoor classroom extends and enhances student learning opportunities, as well as and provides an exciting, hands-on space for teaching and learning. Classes have participated in units of study about weather, plants, and animals in this beautiful new space. Future additions planned for the outdoor classroom include canvas sails for shade during the spring and fall, a permanent weather station, raised bed organic gardens, and rock and mineral gardens. These efforts are only successful with the support of volunteers. Are you interested in supporting our outdoor classroom? Would you like to support sustainable learning projects at our school? Please contact the school office for more information about how to get involved
