Cardiac arrhythmias signs can go undetected due to a persons daily activity or even genetics. Most people do not show signs or symptoms that they are there and not taken seriously. In younger patients, common causes by congenital heart disease and mitral valve damage are caused by rheumatic heart disease . In older patients the arrhythmia can be caused by hypertension, coronary artery disease, and mitral valve prolapse.
Cardiac arrhythmia signs and symptoms:
-Fatigue
-light headedness
-fainting(near fainting)
-shortness of breath
-chest pain
-palpitations
-fluttering sensation in chest or neck
-tachycardia
-Bradycardia
-can be silent and undetected, unless taking a pulse or EKG
There are so many different kinds of cardiac arrhythmias, such as:
Bradycardia: slow heart rate (under 60 beats/min)
Tachycardia: rapid heart rate (over 100 beats/min)
Sinus dysrhythmia: variation in heart rate during breathing cycle
Premature contraction (extra systole): contraction that occurs sooner than expected in a normal rhythm
However, the most common is Atrial Fibrillation, and increases with age. Which is characterized by extremely rapid, incomplete contractions 400-500 beats per minute. The signs can vary from fainting, chest pain, palpitations, and scary enough no symptoms at all.
