Physical Factors

Geographic Context

Malaysia is split between Peninsular Malaysia on the Southeast Asian mainland and East Malaysia on the island of Borneo, which the country shares with Indonesia and Brunei. Hills and mountain ranges loom from swampy coastal plains in both Peninsular and East Malaysia. Important highland tracts include the Main Range of the Malay Peninsula and the Crocker Range of East Malaysia, which also includes volcanic uplifts like Mount Bombalai.
