BANKSY
Banksy is a pseudonymous United Kingdom-based graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter. His satirical street art combine dark humor with graffiti executed in a distinctive stencilling technique. Banksy’s works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world. His birth name and place are unknown.
A stencil painting attributed to Banksy appeared at a vacant petrol station in the Ensley neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama. Banksy was passing through Alabama on his way to New Orleans as Hurricane Gustav approached the New Orleans area. The painting depicting a hooded member of the Ku Klux Klan hanging from a noose was quickly covered with black spray paint and later removed altogether.
