The man on the left is being tortured on the head, which is very, very painful. Jesus, on the right, has a crown of thorns, which is equally as painful. Even with the crown, Jesus feels the suffering of the other man, and He tries to take the pain away from the man while adding the pain to Himself. He has the power to do that because He loves us.
