Born Aug. 5th, 1802 in Nedstrand, Norway. The second child of Søren Georg Abel and Anne Marie Simonsen, Niels was raised in a rectory in Finnøy, where his father was a pastor.

Records indicate Anne Marie was an early onset alcoholic, taking little to no interest in raising her children. Niels and his brothers were home schooled by their father from handwritten books. An addition table in one book read "1+0=0".

Niels Henrick Abel

By Steven Pautler
